Can We Talk About Suicide?

Not a lot of people talk about suicide. If they do, they will in hushed tones. It is a devastating thing and I think that we should all talk about it.

One of my close friends committed suicide over ten years ago. During that time, I was told that he died because of some condition. He went to sleep and never woke up. I already accepted that.

However, a few years after that, I am told that my friend didn't die in his sleep. He actually committed suicide.

I felt like he had died all over again. He was a funny guy. He was cool. And he was there for me. He was a good person. He had his own share of mischief but who doesn't? And to think that he took his own life? Why didn't he talk to us? Why didn't he ask us to help him?

Recently, two of my close friends are also on the brink of committing suicide. One of them has told me of her thoughts. It was a good thing that she decided that she shouldn't. I'm happy that she is now recovering and she is having happier thoughts now.

Yesterday, one of my friends told me that another one of our friends has also been having suicidal thoughts. He's been acting quite strange and has also been going through a heartbreak. We're trying to reach out to him and I'm scared for him. Hopefully, he gets out of his doldrums and finds his way back to the light.

Suicide is not just about the person who commits it. It is also about the people they leave behind. All are victims and all suffer from great loss. The world has plenty of positive things to offer and it is all about just finding the positive side of things.
